What Actually Happens When You Hire a Marketing Agency

A look behind the curtain at what a real engagement looks like, and how TACT does it differently.
This blog post was written by TACT Founder, Chelsie Wyse.

Can I be real with you for a second?

The marketing world is moving fast right now. AI is everywhere. Tools, agents, copywriting platforms, image generators, dashboards that practically narrate themselves. Every agency on LinkedIn is talking about how much faster they are working, including us! TACT has built AI into our content ideation, parts of our content creation, and across our internal operations. It lets us deliver more value to every client without raising our hourly rate.

Here is the part I keep coming back to: Speed is the easy thing to win. Speed by itself is a thin promise.

Founders and business leaders come to TACT for one reason: They are out of time. They can do their own marketing, but they need a trusted partner who will take it on and think two, three, and sometimes five layers deeper than their calendar allows. AI helps us move faster on the routine work. The deeper thinking is where the real value lives, and that part is human. So is the agency experience around it.

So when someone asks me, "What is it actually going to be like to work with TACT?" I think about the feeling first: the Michelin star kitchen, where every plate has been considered three times before it leaves the pass. The private speakeasy where the bartender knows your order before you sit down. A relationship where the details have already been thought through. That is the standard we set with every engagement.

Let me walk you through the fears I hear most often when someone is considering an agency, and what actually happens at TACT.

1. "I'll get a beautiful strategy deck and then they'll disappear."

This is the number one fear, and the most justified. A lot of agencies sell strategy as a finished product. They hand it over, the contract closes, and you are left holding a 60-page PDF with no idea who is supposed to do what on Monday morning.

At TACT, strategy is the starting line. Every engagement begins with a 6-month commitment because real marketing work compounds over time, and three weeks of pretty deliverables will not move your business. Inside that first six months you get a marketing audit, a strategic roadmap, monthly strategy sessions, and the actual execution that brings the plan to life. We stay in the room while the work gets done.

2."I'll be passed off to a junior I've never met."

You do the sales call with the senior person. You feel good. You sign the contract. Then a Slack invite shows up from a ‘green’ account coordinator who is hearing about your business for the first time. Sound familiar?

Here is how it actually goes at TACT: You work with the TACT team AND Chelsie.

From the first Discovery Call through every monthly session, she is the strategist, the lead, and the senior person in the room. The TACT core team of six brings in specialized senior expertise where it belongs (brand design, multimedia, digital marketing, operations, IT), and we lean on a vetted network of collaborators when the scope calls for it.

You always know who is doing what, and you never get rotated into someone else's queue.

3. “I'm going to get a generic playbook with my logo on it."

The cookie-cutter problem is real. When an agency runs the same SEO sprint on every client, you end up with marketing that looks suspiciously like the marketing of a company you’re trying to outpace in your industry. After a while, your ICP doesn’t know if you or your competitor is the better fit so they just pick one (yikes!).

TACT's process starts with diagnosis. Before we recommend a single tactic, we conduct a clear-eyed audit of where you are, where you want to go, and what stands in the way. We look at your current marketing, your customers, your sales process, your competitors, and the honest gaps in between. The roadmap that comes out of that work is built for your business. If a tactic does not earn its way onto your plan, it does not go on your plan. That is what we mean when we say "clarify the chaos." Strip out the noise. Keep what works for you.

4. "I won't know what they're actually doing with my money."

This one keeps ANY business leader up at 2 a.m. The retainer hits the bank account, and a fog rolls in. What did they do this month? Is anything happening? Is it working?

Here is the good news: TACT operates on a published reporting cadence. Every month, you get a full reporting session covering results, what is working, what is not, and what we are adjusting. Every quarter, we zoom out, review progress toward your long-term goals, and align on priorities for the next three months. At the three-month mark of any new engagement, we run a structured check-in to evaluate priorities and confirm we are on the right track. You will never wonder what we are doing.

We also tell you when something is not working! This is a critical step a lot of agencies miss because who wants to admit something isn’t working? Well, we do! We believe in FULL transparency so our clients know we are keeping an eye on their account and figuring out ways to make things even better. If a campaign is underperforming, you will hear about it from us before you have to ask.

5. "We'll spend three months talking about strategy and never ship anything."

Strategy paralysis is a real problem in this industry. So is the opposite, which is shipping random tactics with no strategy at all. TACT runs both lanes at the same time.

Our two service tracks are designed to work together. Strategic Services covers direction, positioning, priorities, and private workshops. Execution Services covers content creation, campaign management, email and social and digital deployment, and marketing tech stacks and implementation.

Most of our clients combine them. That means while we are sharpening your messaging, your email program is going out the door. While we are mapping your funnel, your social content is in market.

6. "Are you just running everything through a bot now?"

This fear has shown up in the last 18 months, and it is fair. Plenty of agencies are quietly handing client work to a chatbot, banking the savings, and calling it efficiency.

TACT has implemented AI deliberately. We use it for content ideation, parts of content creation, and to support our internal operations. The goal is to free up our time for the work that actually matters: strategic thinking, creative direction, client conversations, and the layered analysis your business deserves.

The savings get reinvested directly into your engagement.

If you ever want to know exactly where AI is in your work and where it is staying out of the room, just ask! We will tell you! The work that has to be human stays human.

7. "What if it's not the right fit?"

Psst, you should ask this of ANY agency you interview. A 6-month commitment is real money and real time, and you deserve to know what happens if the partnership is not landing. Here is how we handle it:

The 3-month structured check-in is built in for exactly this reason. It is a designed off-ramp moment. If priorities have shifted, if the work is not what you needed, or if we should be focused elsewhere entirely, we have the conversation in writing with a plan attached. After the initial six months, the engagement shifts to a month-to-month basis.

You are not stuck. You are choosing to keep going every single month. And that is the only kind of partnership worth having.

So what does it actually feel like?

Here is the short version:

You book a complimentary Discovery Call with Chelsie. We talk honestly about your business, your goals, and the chaos that is making things hard right now. If we are a fit, we scope an engagement that matches what you need, kick off with an audit and a strategic roadmap, and start moving.

The day-to-day feel is the part I care about most:

  • Communication that anticipates your questions.

  • Deliverables that arrive polished and on time.

  • Reports you can actually read and act on.

  • A team that remembers the details from your last conversation.

The Michelin-starred kitchen. The speakeasy where your seat is already saved. That is what we are protecting in the AI era. AI gives us the speed. The experience is still ours to build, and we treat it like the most important deliverable we have.

We don't gatekeep around here. If you want to talk through what is going on in your marketing right now, my inbox and calendar are wide open. And if you are ready to clarify the chaos, book your Discovery Call, and we will take it from there.
